The 47 O’Brien “Sir Reel” was commissioned early 2006 and will be skippered by one of Cairns fishing legends, Captain Laurie Wright for the Cairns 2006 Marlin season. The design, the construction fit-out, and the hand lay up is to the latest technology in composite construction built to Australian Standard 4132.3-1993. The custom interior layout of this typical O’Brien gamefishing cruiser reveals an unbelievable use of space, providing comfortable accommodation for six guests and two crew. It features an amidships master bedroom with a double berth that’s easy to access, a large hanging locker and vanity, with a private toilet and shower. Forward, guest accommodation has four over-under berths, large hanging locker and shares spacious shower/toilet. A third stateroom, with over-under berths and large hanging locker. This saloon and galley custom layout is a typical O’Brien it features a dinette adjacent to the galley. Under counter refrigerator and freezer appliances are installed to save space. The flybridge console port side, centreline helm, matching helm chair, custom electronics, comfortable seating for six and easy access to outrigger adjustments. The cockpit design has evolved from decades of marlin fishing, both heavy tackle and light tackle. Intended for serious fishing with a dual coiled freezer boxes, port and starboard sides. Custom live bait tuna tubes and built in brine tanks. Sir Reel was launched late in 2005 and has performed all its seas trials well above our expectations.
